For a sustainable North Rhine-Westphalia until 2030

The State Government of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) advocates a successful, equitable and future-oriented development in social, environmental and economic terms and therefore bases its actions on sustainability as a guiding principle. As the most populous federal state in Germany with nearly 18 million inhabitants, NRW demonstrates how change towards sustainable development and economic and industrial progress can be reconciled.

Sustainability in NRW

North Rhine-Westphalia adopted its first sustainability strategy in 2016. In September 2020 the state government released an updated version of this first strategy. Both strategies can be viewed and downloaded here.

Investing in a sustainable future

Sustainability Bonds

Since 2015, the State of North Rhine-Westphalia regularly issues Sustainability Bonds. The State wants to provide investors who seek sustainable investments with an opportunity to finance selected environmental and social projects of the State. At the same time, North Rhine-Westphalia contributes to the internationally growing segment of Socially Responsible Investments (SRI).
